I first found CrossFit back in 2013 after a friend of mine recommended I try it. I had played football at various levels for the past 20 years. Once I finished playing a few years of arena football, I tried various other sports like triathlons and adventure races. I found that I really missed the fraternal culture and friendships that came with playing football. Like many other people my age, I was ending signing up for a globo gym membership that I hardly used.

After sharing this with a friend who had recently found CrossFit, he recommended I give it a try. I signed up at CrossFit Reston for a month-long foundations class, My first workout had a bunch of deadlifts, toe to bars and sprinting. Afterward, my lungs burned, my legs felt cramped and my hands were shaking. I was hooked!

I loved the variance of what we did from one day to the next. One day we'd lift weights, the next day we run and do gymnastics. After a few short months, not only did I lose 20lbs, I was stronger, faster and more fit than I had been since college (maybe ever!).

And while the workouts were great, it's the community of CrossFit that makes it special. The athletes and coaches at CrossFit Reston were the reason I kept coming back every day and they inspired me to become a coach back in 2015.

Today, coaching gives me an opportunity to share what I have learned about CrossFit and Olympic weightlifting and give back a little of what CrossFit has given me.
