Mike Vorgang


A former Marine Corps Infantry Officer, Mike started coaching CrossFit in July 2007 at CrossFit Quantico. After his course, Mike was instantly hooked on the intensity of the workouts. Upon learning that he was going back to Iraq for his second tour, he decided to use CrossFit as his primary means of physical training. Shortly after arriving in Iraq, he noticed that his ability to carry heavy loads, over longer distances, without feeling fatigued, had increased exponentially. This is directly attributed to the types of workouts CrossFit provides. Shortly after his tour of duty, Mike left the Marine Corps for the civilian sector.

A CF-L2 coach, Mike started coaching for CrossFit Fairfax in June 2009. Upon it's opening, he transferred to CrossFit Reston where he has coached since.Mike truly enjoys every aspect of coaching and feels that the most rewarding part is seeing athletes accomplish things they never thought possible. As a coach, he feels that by imparting knowledge on others he is learning more as well. In his spare time, Mike trains in Muay Thai and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ). He currently holds the rank of blue belt in BJJ, and also instructs classes. Mike competes in both martial arts. He also enjoys spending time with his family and friends when not training.
